Glasses Half Full — of Glare

Your audience wants to see the whites of your eyes– not the white glare in your glasses.

Your screen reflection can be incredibly distracting and definitely leads to video suckage. Luckily there is a simple unsuck solution that doesn’t include endless attempts to rearrange your computer screen usually resulting in funky angles.

No, the trick isn’t to take off your glasses off so you can’t see.

…Ok you do have to take off your glasses– briefly! Now, put them on slightly tilted so the lenses are angled down — so the legs are higher and even off your ears. This might be a little easier for gals than it is for guys because of the whole hair coverage thing but anyone should be able to do it. From the front the audience usually can’t tell at all and it looks far better than crazy cyborg eyes.

This trick works with Skype or iChat too — nice added bonus for having better, less distracted, conversations. Try it out and let us know or even see the results of your experiments. We love before/after links around here!

Attention Matters

In this category of UnSuck we will chat all things Attention — and distraction.

Don’t expect your audience to be forgiving of circumstances they don’t know exist.

According to YouTube analytics, watchers decide if they will continue watching or click off in the first 10 seconds of play. If you aren’t paying attention to all the elements of your video, your audience can hardly be expected to pay attention to it.

So look for the Attention Matters posts to make sure you aren’t wasting valuable seconds with suckage.
